Why isn't the author box showing in WordPress, and how do you prepare author pages for E-E-A-T?
In short: The author box is usually missing because the author's bio is empty. In Wiozen Theme the box is fed by the "Biographical Info" field in the user's profile, and when that field is empty the box isn't printed at all; fill it in and it appears on post pages in all five designs. For E-E-A-T the bio is only the start: the author name should lead to an author page that says who the person is and why they know what they're writing about.
Why isn't the author box showing?
An empty box leaves a dull strip with just a name and a "Written by" label. Wiozen Theme avoids that by checking the author's bio; if it's empty, the whole box is dropped from the page. Here's what to check:
- Open Users › Profile (or Users › All Users › Edit for another author).
- Write two or three sentences in "Biographical Info" and update the profile.
- Make sure the post's author really is this user. If you wrote the post from another account, that account is the author; change it in the Author field in the editor's sidebar.
With a bio in place, the box shows at the end of the post with the profile photo in the News, Technology, Finance and Food designs. In the Guide design the box has no photo, and the "Written by" row in the post's facts box also links to the author page.
Where do the author's name and photo come from?
The name comes from "Display name publicly as" in the profile. If your username is selected there, your login name shows on the site; enter your first and last name and pick that from the list.
WordPress takes the photo from the Gravatar account tied to the email address; the theme doesn't change that. Without a Gravatar photo, the default icon appears. In the News design the byline above the post uses a 40-pixel photo and the box below uses 56 pixels. In Technology and Finance the box photo is 64 pixels, in Food 72.
What shows on the author page?
A reader who clicks the author name goes to /author/username/. In all five Wiozen Theme designs this page shows the author's name as the page heading (H1), puts the bio under it if there is one, and lists the author's posts. News, Technology and Finance show a 72-pixel photo next to the heading and Food an 80-pixel one; Guide has no photo and puts an "Author" label above the heading.
The bio is printed as plain text on the author page. If you put links or HTML in it, the tags show up as text, so write the bio without links. If you want to point to your social accounts or credentials, create a separate "About" or author page (as a page) for that.
What should an author profile have for E-E-A-T?
E-E-A-T stands for experience, expertise, authoritativeness and trustworthiness, from the guidelines Google gives its quality raters. It isn't a ranking setting you switch on; it describes whether a page answers the reader's question "who wrote this, and why should I believe them?" A short checklist for the bio:
- A real name, or one pen name you always use. Don't use two names for the same person.
- Your link to the subject: how many years you've done the work, your training, where you work. A line like "passionate writer" tells the reader nothing.
- What you've tried yourself. On a recipe site, that you cook the recipes in your own kitchen; on a finance site, which data you follow.
- A way to get in touch. Since the bio carries no links, naming the site's Contact page is enough.
If you have several authors, each post should be published from the account of the person who actually wrote it. When every post sits under a single "admin" account, the author page means nothing.
Does the theme add author (Person) schema?
No. Wiozen Theme prints no JSON-LD on any page. Marking up the post's author and the author page as schema is done by your SEO plugin, such as Yoast SEO or Rank Math. If you fill in the social profile fields these plugins add to the user profile, they go into the schema; the theme doesn't show those fields on the page.
Frequently asked questions
Can I show the author box without writing a bio?
No, the box is hidden on purpose when the bio is empty. Even a one-sentence bio turns it on.
Can I upload a profile photo without Gravatar?
The theme doesn't add its own photo field. If you install a plugin that adds local profile photos to WordPress, the box and the author page use that photo, because both rely on WordPress's standard avatar output.
Does the author page URL show my username?
WordPress builds the URL from the user's "nicename", which is usually derived from the login name. If you want to keep your login name private, create a separate author account for publishing.
What should I do for guest authors?
Give each guest author their own user account (with the Author role) and fill in their bio. When the post is published under their name, the box and the author page belong to them.
