How do you delete a WordPress theme's demo content, and will it delete my own posts?
In short: In Wiozen Theme you delete the demo with the "Remove demo content" button on the Demo content tab under Appearance › Wiozen Theme. The theme marks every post, page, image and menu it adds and deletes only the items that carry that mark; posts you wrote and images you uploaded are left alone. The deletion is permanent and skips the trash. A demo post you edited keeps its mark and is deleted along with the rest.
How does the theme tell demo content apart?
When the demo is added, the theme writes a hidden field named _wiozen_demo on every item. Demo categories and tags are kept in a separate list. The remove button only looks for these marked items in the database. A post you created doesn't have that field, so it never enters the search.
The method doesn't look at dates or author names. A post you wrote the day after adding the demo, or one written with the same admin account, is safe.
What gets deleted and what stays?
Deleted:
- Every marked post and page, including demo posts you moved to drafts or to the trash.
- The demo images, with their files, from the media library.
- The demo menu.
- The sample comments on the demo posts.
- The logo, only if the theme set the demo logo itself. If you uploaded your own logo, it stays.
Kept:
- Posts and pages you wrote and images you uploaded.
- Demo categories and tags that hold one of your posts. The theme only deletes a demo category or tag if it's empty; a category you put a post in stays with its name and URL.
- Your theme settings, the design you picked and your header and footer layouts.
In the Guide design, if a demo category is selected as the glossary category, that setting is cleared too, because the category may be gone.
What should you check before deleting?
- If you turned a demo post into your own, changing its title and text and keeping it published, it's still marked and will be deleted. Copy the text into a new post, publish the new post, then remove the demo.
- If you used one of the demo images in your own posts, that image is deleted too and leaves a broken image in your post. Download those images and upload them again first.
- Once the demo menu is gone, the header shows WordPress's fallback menu until you build your own. Build it under Appearance › Editor › Navigation. If you changed and saved the header in the Site Editor, check whether its Navigation block still points to the deleted menu and pick your own menu if needed.
- Deletion can't be undone. On a live site, take a database backup first from your hosting panel or with a backup plugin.
How do you remove the demo content step by step?
- Open the Demo content tab under Appearance › Wiozen Theme. The tab shows how many demo posts, pages and images are on your site.
- Click "Remove demo content".
- Confirm in the "Remove all demo content?" dialog.
- The notice at the top of the page says how many items were deleted. Open the site and check the menu and the front page.
This tab works on a site connected to a Wiozen account with at least $5 in total top-ups. The buttons that add and remove the demo sit in the same place.
Does the demo go away when you switch themes?
No. Switching to another theme or changing Wiozen Theme's design doesn't delete the demo; the posts stay on the site like any other posts. Removal only happens through the button, so the easiest order is to remove the demo while Wiozen Theme is still active, before you move to another theme. If you come back to Wiozen Theme, the button finds the marked items again.
Frequently asked questions
Can I bring deleted demo content back from the trash?
No. The theme deletes posts, pages and images permanently without sending them to the trash. The only way back is a backup taken before deleting.
Can I add the demo again after removing it?
Yes. Once the Demo content tab is empty, the "Add demo content" button comes back and installs the active design's demo again. While the demo is on the site, a second copy isn't added.
I put my own post in a demo category. Will the category be deleted?
No. After the demo posts are deleted your post is still in the category, so it isn't empty and the theme leaves it.
Does demo content show up in search engines?
Published demo posts can be crawled like any other post. Remove the demo before you open the site to the public or to search engines.
