How do you edit the WordPress footer in a block theme?
In short: In a block theme the footer is a template part: open it from Appearance › Editor › Patterns › Template Parts › Footer and edit it like a page; there's no widgets screen as in older themes. In Wiozen Theme the footer lists your published pages, categories and latest posts by itself and updates the copyright year on its own. You change the layout (Wide, Centered, Minimal) and the small "Made with Wiozen" link from the theme panel.
Where do you edit the footer in a block theme?
- Open Appearance › Editor.
- Under Patterns, pick "Footer" in Template Parts and click edit. The "Footer" card in the Customize tab of the Wiozen Theme panel leads to the same screen.
- Change texts by typing over them, add or remove blocks, then click Save.
The saved footer changes on every page at once, because every template uses the same part. The change is stored in the database and doesn't touch theme files, so a theme update doesn't erase it.
What does Wiozen Theme put in the footer on its own?
In the Wide layout the footer isn't a list you fill by hand; it pulls its content from your site.
- In News, Technology, Finance and Food, the categories column lists the categories that have posts.
- The pages column ("Corporate" in News, Technology and Finance, "Pages" in Food, "Site" in Guide) lists all your published pages. Draft pages don't show.
- The latest posts column shows the newest posts: 3 in News, Technology and Food, 4 in Finance.
- The tag strip shows the 14 most used tags in News and Finance and 16 in Technology and Food. With no tags on the site, the strip doesn't appear.
- The copyright line reads "© year site name. All rights reserved." The year and site name are read again on every page load, so you don't edit it in January. You change the site name under Settings › General.
How do you put a privacy policy and contact page in the footer?
Create the page and publish it. Since the pages column shows every published page automatically, your Privacy Policy, Cookie Policy, Terms, About and Contact pages appear in the footer without adding them to a menu.
Because the column shows every page, pages a plugin creates, such as "Cart" or "Thank you", land there too. To choose what shows, delete the Page List block in the footer and put a Navigation block with your own links in its place.
Also select your privacy page under Settings › Privacy. WordPress uses it for the privacy link on login and comment forms. The wording of these texts is up to you; the theme doesn't write legal text.
Why aren't the social media icons showing?
The designs ship social icons with no address ("#"), and the theme doesn't print an icon until it has one, so visitors and search engines never hit an empty link. If none of the icons has an address, the whole group is hidden. To show them, open the footer in the Site Editor, click an icon and enter your profile URL. You can delete the icons of platforms you don't use.
Changing the footer layout
In the theme panel, "Footer layout" in the Customize tab has three options: Wide (columns, tag strip and bottom row), Centered and Minimal. The choice shows on the site as soon as you save. The "Footer" card in the Settings tab has three more switches: "Back to top button" (appears at the bottom right once the page is scrolled down), "Popular tags strip" (Wide layout only) and the "Made with Wiozen" link. All three are on by default.
These panel tabs open on a site connected to a Wiozen account with at least $5 in total top-ups. Editing in the Site Editor is a WordPress feature and works without connecting an account.
A footer you saved in the Site Editor isn't affected by the layout choice or a design switch; it stays the way you left it. To go back to the panel's layout or the new design's footer, tick the footer under Customize › Customized templates and click "Reset selected". Resetting deletes your manual changes to that part.
What does the "Made with Wiozen" link do?
It's a small text link to wiozen.com in the footer's bottom row. It carries rel="nofollow", so search engines don't treat it as an endorsement from your site. It loads no images, scripts or trackers; nothing is requested from Wiozen unless a visitor clicks it. To turn it off, use the switch on the Settings › Footer card.
Frequently asked questions
Can I add widgets to the footer in a block theme?
Block themes have no widgets screen. You do the same job by adding blocks to the footer: latest posts, a search box, custom HTML or a newsletter form block.
Do I have to update the copyright year every year?
No. Wiozen Theme takes the year from the current date each time the page loads.
Will a theme update erase my footer changes?
No. A footer saved in the Site Editor lives in the database, and an update only replaces the theme's files.
Can I put an ad in the footer?
Yes, add a Custom HTML block in the Site Editor and paste the ad code into it. For the ready ad slots, see the AdSense guide.
